The McKenzie Method was developed by physical therapist Robin McKenzie in 1960s. The technique is mostly used for accessing and treating back and body pain. It evaluates the effect of repetitive movements and postures on a patient’s symptoms. The diagnosis helps the therapist to decide a line of treatment, which only on focuses on the current symptoms of the patient, but also aims at long-term relief and prevention. It is an alternative form of treatment for chronic pain and back conditions, which has proved to be beneficial for thousands of people. At chiroFX, we use the Mckenzie Technique for diagnosis and treatment, and Dr. Minors and his team specializes in that.

Things worth knowing

Recent studies and research have revealed that the Mckenzie Technique is capable of differentiating discogenic pain from non-discogenic, and it is also more relevant and accurate in finding paining and non-painful disc, as compared to that of MRI. When it comes to discogenic diagnosis, Dr. Minors believes in the power of Mckenzie Technique. It is also a great choice for people suffering from chronic back pain. Also, true to what you have heard, the treatment plan includes exercises that patients can do at home.

Understanding Mckenzie Technique and Physiotherapy

Unlike some of the other techniques used for pain management, Mckenzie Technique relies heavily on patient’s self-management of pain. At chiroFX, we teach a set of exercises to patients, besides positions and posture corrections, which helps in getting relief and other therapeutic benefits. Patients also learn about postures, movements and activities that must be avoided as these can make things worse. In case the self-treatment strategies don’t work for the patient, additional manual therapy can be used.
